Each participant at the 71st edition of the Miss World Pageant 2024 carried themselves with utmost grace and confidence. While the ladies walked the ramps in their complete glory, a lot of work goes on behind the scenes to give them mane that adds to their confidence and overall outlook. Vidhi Arya from Professional Beauty India got in touch with Savio John Pereira to understand the secrets to the flawless hair that we all witnessed.
The Creative Process Behind the Winning Looks for Miss World 2024
The guidelines came from the Miss World organisation. We were required to create glamorous looks — the hair had to be left open and it had to be flowy with a very sexy, glamorous quotient to it.
Personalising Each Look
While creating the looks, we had to ensure the hair was styled as per the person’s face structure and the length of the locks. However, the looks needed to be standardised as per guidelines. We had to ensure that all contestants looked similar and not too different, The hairstyles needed to be in the same family — flowy and gorgeous,
While styling the hair, we had to play along while keeping several parameters in mind. This included focus on the contestants’ foreheads, jawlines, ears, and even length. To match the hair length, we also added extensions, wherever needed.
Not just styling but also colour plays an important role in creating mesmerising hair looks. Depending upon the natural hair colour of the contestants, we played a lot with global colour. We also created a lot of movement through subtle highlights. And, that’s what worked out really well.
The idea was that all the contestants should have long, flowing, glamorous hair that complements them.
The Inspiration Behind the Looks
I believe it is through platforms like Miss India, Miss World and the Miss Universe that global trends start.
The trends and inspirations behind the look are actually what is happening globally on the fashion scene. Here, the inspiration was to bring in a lot of oomph factor and sexiness to the overall look.
Creating Looks That Lasted the Night at Miss World 2024
To create long-lasting looks, hair needs to be pre-prepped. We need to choose products that are high-end and have impeccable results. Further, we need to choose the products according to the hair types. As girls are from different parts of the world, different products were used, depending on hair type and texture. The hairdressers had to be very particular about how well it would work out with the climate in Mumbai.
Also, styling techniques, the tools that were used — the kind of brushes, the kind of tongs, how the hair was pinned up, how the hair was put into rollers, what was the hold factor of the products: all of these are extremely important things that determine the longevity of the hairstyle.
So all in all, it’s a blend of the hair texture, working with hair extensions, product quality, and tools that are being used. Everything has its importance while creating the perfect hairstyle which has to last for more than 5 or 6 hours.
The contestants have a lot of running around to do – one minute they are on stage, next they’re backstage. They are constantly moving around and hence, the hair needs to be in place all the time. When there is flawless attention to detail. flawless hair will come along.
